On Monday we arrived in Khao Sok national park - a really beatiful place in the countryside in the south of Thailand. We were stopping in little huts and whilst I didn't appreciate the walk up the big hill with all my belongings in the heat to get to my room when we got there and could see right across the valley and into the mountains it was more than worth it. Monday afternoon we went tubing down the river which was great fun!
Tuesday we went for a walk in the national park and went for a bit of a swim in the river and then yesterday we moved on to Ko Samui. We didn't really have much time in Ko Samui as we had worked out that we actualy ended up on the island next to where they hold the well known full moon parties for one night on the exact night of full moon - such a coincidence that we couldn't let the opportunity slip.
We crowded onto a pier that was packed with people to catch a speedboat over to Koh Phangan - each speedboat held about 40 people and there were well over 300 people on this pier each wanting to be on the next boat across so we had to do our fair share of pushing and shoving. Seven of us from our group went across to the full moon party - our aim was to go for a bit, enjoy the experience and come back on an earlyish speedboat - we everntually rolled back in to to our hotel in Kop Samui just after 6am. The full moon party is awesome - a huge long beach filled with bars and stalls selling drink, UV paint, glow sticks and playing dance music by the sea - we got pretty drunk (with some quite funny photos to follow on facebook) and had such an amazing time.
With just 2 hours sleep this morning we got up to head to Ko Tao, a small island just north of Ko Samui and Ko Phangan on what has to be the worst ferry journey of my (and probably everyone on boards) life. We haven't quite come out of rainy season here yet in Thailand and the weather was terrible and waves were high. I actually did well not to be seasick with the boat flying up in the air and crashing onto the waves for 2 hours - most of the people on the boat were ill and when the staff on the boat also start being sea sick it really paints a picure of how bad it was!
I'm now in Ko Tao where the weather is pretty changeable - well, from warm and grey to bouncing it down with the heaviest rain you've ever seen. Forecast is a little better for tomorrow though so hopefully will be able to hit the beach and at least try to catch a bit of sunshine to make it look like I've been on holiday! We've been that busy seeing things, doing things or travelling that I don't seem to have got a sun-tan. I have had the most amazing time ever though so that doesn't worry me too much!
Ko Tao is amazing, we're stopping in a really nice resort just on Sairee beach. The beach is fantastic and the bars and restaurants are great too.
Only one more full day left here before I catch the overnight train back to Bangkok and fly home - arriving back on Monday morning so will see you all then!
